Question

Why should the NRA be allowed to have such powerful roll in th legislation when the purpose of a special interest group is not to interfere.

I don't think that a special interest group should have and jurisdiction, however with so many members it does represent a large group of American's ideas so it should be taken somewhat into consideration

Since we have a two party system, I believe it is critical to have special interest groups. These groups reprsent the views and interests of those who are not necessarily represented by the two major political parties. Other republics and democracies have multi-party systems and form coalitions to elect candidates who will represent their interests. The only way minority interests can be represented in our government is through the special interest group. However, the reality is that the more money a group has, the more it can influence legislation. This means that the most needy minorities are probably not influencing congressional lawmaking. Hence, a well financed organization like the NRA is able to achieve its goals. These goal may not be in the best interest of our nation.

I agree with Mrs. Foley's comments above and would suggest that special interests groups often represent the beliefs and interests of ordinary citizens not held by elected officials. Dispite the fundamental objective of our two party system in this country (to offer equal representation for both the majority and minority), this is rarely the case. Political and personal agendas are continually clouding the judgement and reasoning of our elected officials. This leaves the special interest groups to stand up for the interests of all people.

I think that special intrest groups are necessary to show politicians what is important to the people. But, I also think that once the special intrest group takes on a huge factor in congress and voting, we have a problem.
Also, I really like how you had a question on your blog because it makes your readers think while they are listening to your opinions.
